A lot of people just don’t care about SEO, and we get it. SEO can be boring. The acronym can even get annoying when you hear it so often. So we’ve compiled a list of the quickest and easiest tips and put them together in a way that is easy to digest and to the point:
1. No matter what anyone ever tells you, the content of your website and online marketing material is more important than some key phrases. Either you can get SEO in there or you can’t, but never ever sacrifice the integrity and attractiveness of your content for improved searchability.
2. Have at least one landing page with a keyword in the domain name and a link to your site.
3. When people say keyword they usually mean keyword phrase. Phrases are easier to optimize and get you better results. Don’t worry about individual words.
4. Use alt tags for your images and give your images titles.
5. Don’t say the same thing over and over on your website. Look up synonyms. Don’t even say your key phrases over and over. Google may decide you are a spam site if you do.
6. Check for bad links and missing images. Google doesn’t like this and neither do your customers.
7. Make sure your site has some kind of logical order. Make sure navigation is easy. Don’t make important pages hard to find. It should all be easy.
8. Simplicity is more important to customers than what a site looks like. For example, Google and Craig’s List have incredibly simple sites, most would even call Craig’s List ugly, yet people use it, a lot.
9. For search engines, the order of importance is Title Tag, Meta Description, Headline 1, Headline 2, and Headline 3.
10. Adding content and updating content regularly is important for your customers and for search engines.
11. Anchored text should be your key phrases whenever possible.
12. Local SEO is easier than global SEO. If you are a business that serves customers in a particular area or areas use your keywords along with the name of the city. Instead of “Great sandwiches” use “Great sandwiches in Las Vegas” for example. Learn about your local Business Listings, and hire a professional (like us) to optimize your business so it shows up on the first page.
13. If you are a new business or are making a new website, choose your domain last, not first. Creating the site will give you a ton of ideas.
