1. Provide a good service or product.
2. Ask.
3. Tell them how to leave a testimonial and make sure it’s easy.
4. Bribe them with offers.
5. Have someone physically attractive and with a pleasant demeanor ask.
6. Yes, we’re serious about number five.
7. Make sure you have options to leave testimonials on all of your social sites and your main site, control what does and does not show up, and try to have an offer in place for anyone who participates.
8. Be sure you get permission before publishing their testimonial, and that should be a checkbox or something in the testimonial they fill out. This is actually a plus, counterintuitive as it may be: 1. People with something to say want to know what they say will be heard and checking that box will make them more willing to participate – basically they don’t feel you’re wasting their time. 2. They will think about it more when they see that box.
9. Never publish testimonials in a way which would allow some third party to track that person down and ask about you, unless they’ve stated that they actually want to be contacted – which does happen believe it or not.
