It is no secret you need to eat to stay alive. The same applies to your website content. Sure, it is a different kind of “eating,” but the principle is still the same. Today we are going to talk about Google’s E-A-T score and should you think too much about it as a web designer, marketer, SEO professional, and business owner.
So, What Does E-A-T Stand For?
E-A-T is an acronym for a score Google came up with as part of its Search Quality Guidelines. It stands for Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness — the three top considerations for Page Quality for the folks over at Google. So, if you have been neglecting E-A-T so far, it is a good idea to stop doing it.
A Short Dissection of the Score
Needless to say, you should always keep E-A-T in mind when creating content for a web page or an entire website. It’s kind of a mouthful, isn’t it? Well, let’s simplify it a little, so it makes more sense.
Expertise — You need to be an expert in your field, and to prove that you are, you need to provide the necessary credentials (job experience, college degree, license information, etc.) in your content.
Authoritativeness — You need to show you are an authority. Your authority comes from the expertise of your content writers. If the page in question is a forum, the quality of conversion will drive authority. Yes, credentials are important, but so is personal/user experience, a.k.a reviews, etc.
Trustworthiness — The third component is trustworthiness, and it means you have to show users that they can trust the page they are on. When it comes to eCommerce businesses that ask customers for their credit card information, trust is an essentially important factor.
Bear in Mind…
E-A-T is considered on both a page-level and site-level which means all pages on your website need to comply with Google’s requirements.
E-A-T determines your website’s value and quality raters keep that score in mind. If your site makes your users/readers feel comfortable reading, sharing, and recommending you and your content, you will have a high E-A-T score.
